Scorpion ADF-9000

The Scorpion ADF-9000 is a fiber composite adventure helmet. The peak comes off easily, and it has an internal sun visor. There is also a carbon version.

Why I bought it

This was my first adventure helmet. I was prioritizing a good budget, a fiberglass shell, comfort, and easy GoPro mounting without weird accessories.

Where it’s been

I wore it for three years, until it got stolen. I took it on several multi-day trips through the Balkans, the Alps, north Spain and elsewhere, from cold days to hot days above 35 degrees.

Fit and comfort

The interior is very comfortable, and the helmet is not too heavy. Size M fitted well out of the box. After a few rides it became a bit loose on the cheeks, and the air inflation system did not do a lot to improve that.

Camera mounting

A GoPro mounting accessory comes in the box, and it works great. With the camera mounted, there was more movement than I would have liked.

Vision

Goggles fit easily in the eye port, which is very big. My glasses sat comfortably inside the helmet.

Ventilation

Ventilation isn’t great. I could not feel it much on my head through the top ventilation channels. It doesn’t matter, though. Off road I ride with the visor up, and on the road I can crack the visor open 1 cm, which lets in a good amount of air.

Who it’s for

For the price, I find it an amazing helmet. The liner is comfortable, it is well built, and it has great accessories and space to mount an action camera as well as an intercom. I would closely watch the fit against your cheeks, as it can become too loose. That was the main reason I looked for another model when I changed mine.
